WHAT IS SHARE OUR STRENGTH’S TASTE OF THE NATION®?
ABOUT taste of the nation - LA
Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation® Los Angeles is one of nearly 40 events across America dedicated to ending hunger in America. Each summer, LA’s hottest chefs and mixologists donate their time, talent and passion at the Taste of the Nation event at Media Park in Culver City to raise the critical funds needed to end childhood hunger.
The fundraiser on Sunday June 12, 2011, consisted of featured cooking demonstrations and was undoubtedly the most successful event yet. In 2011, the event suported Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, St. Joseph’s Center, Los Angeles Coalition to End Hunger and Homelessness, Center for Community and Family Services, California Food Policy Advocates and California Food Association of Food Banks.

WHY WE ARE FOCUSING ON CHILDHOOD HUNGER
In the world’s wealthiest nation, no child should grow up hungry. Yet, more than 17 million children in America struggle with hunger. That’s nearly one in four with limited or uncertain access to the nutritious foods they need to develop to their full potential.
HOW WE WILL END CHILDHOOD HUNGER
With your support, Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation has raised over $75 million since its inception. Funds raised through Taste of the Nation events help Share Our Strength accomplish the following through its No Kid Hungry® Campaign to end childhood hunger in America:
- Give more kids a healthy start to the day through effective school breakfast programs
- Ensure kids have food at home by helping more eligible families enroll in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps)
Keep kids nourished outside of school hours by:
1.) making sure they have access to afterschool programs that provide healthy snacks and meals, and
2.)increasing the participation in summer meals programs
- Teach low-income families how to cook healthy, affordable meals through Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters™ program and by funding other nutrition education programs.
